"Hogar Dulce Hogar"
      spanish for
"Home Sweet Home"

The past two months of my life in Nicaragua will always be unforgettable. I have seen some of the most beautiful places in the world and also the most devestating, heart breaking, and inspiring things.

I honestly dont know where to begin besides the fact that i am so grateful to spend this trip with my team of 5 girls that makes up the incredible team named JVM. We have all gotten so much closer and truly have become a family.

When i say that we became a family i truly mean that. These girls have been there for me through some of the hardest situations in my life, we are always there for eachother and i care so deeply about each of these girls individually.

God has reminded me to appreciate something more that i take for granted everyday… That one thing is

FAMILY.
I have realized how much family means to me. It is one of the most important things that while staying in Nicaragua i have fully been able to realize.

To start off i have a beautiful Mom who is my best friend, i have a Dad who is the most giving and selfless man that i know and i have a brother who always knows how to make me laugh. But thats not all i have grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins that pour love into me all the time.

I have also been blessed with a church family in Atlanta. My family is Dunwoody Baptist Church. They have been there for me and encouraged me with my walk with Christ. I couldnt imagine where i would be without the support of everyone back home.

God has given me all of these families and im still trying to understand why.

While being in Nicaragua my squad and I always visit the town of Bethel. It is a very depressing and dark place to be, houses that are a made up of 1 room for the entire family, holes in the roof of the kitchen so the kitchen can barely be used, but with all of these things there are so many families full of love.

During my time in Nicaragua i have spent alot of time with a girl named Yoaska. She is 11 and very mature for her age. She's very shy and doesnt speak much english but i love spending time with her.

She has a little sister named Alisson who is 3 and loves being picked up and spun around. Did i mention that she has the cutest laugh and smile in the world?

Yoaska has a older brother named Allan who is 13. She also has a little cousin named Narwin who is full of energy. He always speaks to me in spanish and i never understand so he always speaks louder and louder until he's screaming at the top of his lungs. My response is always "yo no say" i dont know.

Yoaska has a Mom who is one of the funniest people i know and a Dad who is such a hard worker and is very protective of his children.

One day in Bethel, Alisson called me her "hermana" which means sister. She gave me a big hug and Yoaska kept holding my hand. After that day i became apart of the family. Everyday i visit the home and the Mom always cooks me food and i get to learn how to make authentic meals. We pray together, and play games, we even sit in silence because of the language barrier but i feel so comfortable with them.

God has blessed me with so many families including the one that i have in Bethel. I thank God for all of the love that he has given to me and for all the incredible people that he has placed in my life. I get the oppurtunity to love on people all around the world because of the love that i have recieved from all of my familes.

I have a couple of prayer request for my family.
The Dad has the kidney disease from working in the sugar cane fields for over 14 years.
The oldest boy Allan has medical needs from a surgery he had 2 years ago.
My little sister Alisson has Malaria and needs medication.
Please pray for their needs to be met and for healing.

I realized why i am in Nicaragua. These people are the reason. My incredible family. i have had the greatest 3 months because of these people and i know i will be forever grateful for them.

Thank you for reading and supporting me. Youre comments mean the world to me and help far more than you can imagine.

God Bless You,

Sarah Henderson
